Highland Gourmet Scones is a family owned and operated bakery located in Pelham, Alabama, a suburb found just off of I-65 on the southern outskirts of Birmingham. That’s right. Birmingham, Alabama, not England. You might ask: what does an artisan bakery located in the Deep South know about scones?
Quite a bit, actually. Our recipe has been baked for over three decades, by four different families. The Golden Raisin scone was originally served by Bonnie Bailey at her restaurant and cooking school, The Highland Gourmet, on Birmingham’s Highland Avenue in the 1980s.
Not at all dry, a scone from Highland Gourmet combines the refined taste that comes straight from the British Isles with the warmth and friendliness found throughout the South. Our nine flavors of dough are mixed by hand, and each scone is individually weighed and “rolled”, or shaped, then baked daily at our retail storefront.
Customers can purchase both in our store and online, and occasionally at other locations throughout town, including the Market at Pepper Place. For special occasions, we offer packaging in our round gold tins–a beautiful gourmet gift that can shipped to recipients nationwide.
We have shipped our product to all fifty states, and internationally to Switzerland and Canada. We’ve even had people in England order them for family in the US, which we consider rather authentic endorsement. In fact, we’ve adopted a phrase coined by some of our most loyal customers: Highland Gourmet has “the best scones this side of the Atlantic!”
